Milburn is a small village in the eastern region of Cumbria, and lies beneath Cross Fell which is the highest point of the Pennines. Milburn is built around a large village green, which is a legacy from its medieval past. Some homeowners still maintain the rights for animals to graze on the green. The majority of the houses in the village date back to the 18th century and centre around the village green. At the centre of the green you’ll find a 40 foot maypole that is believed to be on the site of a celtic burial ground. Milburn’s church, St Cuthberts, is on the outside of the village and is believed to be where the body of St Cuthbert rested when monks fleeing Lindisfarne toured the country with holy relics. Milburn is ideal for visiting the Lake District, Eden Valley and Northern Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, making it the perfect base for those looking to get outdoors and get active.
