If you are thinking of visiting the Lake District, why not escape the crowds by choosing one of our cottages in the quieter areas of Lakeland. Villages such as Backbarrow, Longsleddale and Burton in Kendal are close to the Lakes but also give easy access to areas such as Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in Lancashire.
Ireby and Raughton Head lie on the northern side of the National Park and close to the historic county city of Carlisle. There are plenty of museums and attractions to explore in this area. The Pencil Museum in Keswick is a firm family favourite. Close by is the Keswick Museum and Gallery offering an interesting look at this beautiful area and its past. A little further afield you can find the Rheged Centre at Penrith which is a hive of activity for all the family, including a cinema, workshops, adventure play, and crafts.
The Eden Valley villages of Kings Meaburn, Appleby and Milburn are great locations for exploring the Lakes, Yorkshire Dales, and the Scottish borders, as well as the lovely Eden Valley. For a coastal break, the Victorian seaside town of Silloth is a great location, next to the Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with views across the Solway Firth to Scotland.
