Cheese and... Ale?

Friends Having Fun in the Pub

Forget cheese and wine, this is Yorkshire don't you know! You need to head over to the Yorkshire Dales and pick up the best after dinner delight you have ever had, Yorkshire style. We have selected our favourite cheese maker and brewery so you know where you can pick up your own slice of Yorkshire heaven.

A Yorkshire man (or woman!) and their pint of ale have been friends for many years and there’s plenty of breweries to prove so. One of our favourite which is the pride of the Dales is Black Sheep Brewery, they make a variety of brews, from pale ales to strong ruby beers. A funny fact is the strong ruby beer called ‘Riggwelter’ is taken from the Yorkshire Dales farming term ‘rigwelted’ where a sheep has fallen on its back and can’t get back up without help. Such a great name for a beer at 5.7% because we can assure you too many of them and you might end up like the poor sheep! The brewery has a visitor centre so get on down and enjoy the shop, ‘baa..r’ (bar!), bistro or brewery tour! It’s in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales in Masham so it’s a great base to go exploring.

50 minutes away from Black Sheep Brewery is Wensleydale Creamery. Now Wallace and Gromit would have a field day because this is the bees’ knees in Wensleydale cheese! Their visitor centre will tell you everything you’ve ever wanted to know about this famous cheese. Watch how the cheese is made the traditional way and of course sample all the delights that has made Gromit so happy all of these years! Or if that’s not enough visit the Calverts restaurant and enjoy a range of scrumptious culinary delights with a wide variety having a cheesy twist. So after your day out hopefully you will have picked up a range of ales and cheese which you can now take back to your holiday cottage. Now all that’s left to do is enjoy them whilst watching the sun set over the Yorkshire Dales, what a brilliant Yorkshire experience!
