Ilkley is a lovely spa town located less than 10 miles away from our office in Skipton and on Monday the 5th of May they will be hosting their annual celebration ‘Ilkley Carnival’. The whole town comes alive for the carnival including all the local businesses who decorate their shop windows to reflect the theme of the year.
This year the theme could be no other than the Tour De France which is going to be racing through the town on the 5th July. This means you can expect to see both adults and children dressing up as a variety of local landmarks, cultures and more. Be sure to look out for someone dressed as Skipton Castle!
Local under 16’s have entered the ‘Carnival Creative’ competition where they have submitted a drawing, painting or digitally produced design to be judged. The lucky winner will have their picture printed on the front of the 2014 programme so be sure to keep an eye out for the winning design on the brochure.
In 2013 there were birds of prey demonstrations, a variety of games for adults and kids, a Punch and Judy puppet show, horse riding displays and of course the grand parade. Last year over 8,000 people visited the carnival so it’s a hive of activity.
This year is set to be a great way to spend the bank holiday with the celebrations being led by stunt cyclists, it’s sure to be a show-stopping parade that celebrates all things Yorkshire! Events kick off at 11.30am so get down there in good time and enjoy all that Ilkley Festival has to offer.
