Getting active in the Yorkshire Dales has never been easier, there’s such a great selection of activities to choose from for any type of adrenaline rush and with the half term fast approaching you might also need some ideas to keep the kids entertained and outside!
Aerial Extreme near Thirsk is a great place to test your nerve for heights. Climbing around 13m in the air through the treetops will test your stamina and the exhilarating zip wire is sure to get your heart pumping. But if heights really aren’t your thing then there are still lots of activities out there to have a go at, with such stunning countryside there’s lots of different ways to explore other than your average walk.
Swapping your two feet for two wheels can make for an exciting ride around your surroundings, Dolomite Training even offer mountain bike courses to help improve anyone who might be lacking in off-roading confidence. Classes are £70 and the course lasts 1 day with booking being essential. With all of the mountain biking trails around the Dales you will definitely be putting your new found skills to the test!
If the thought of mountain biking around the countryside is a bit too energy sapping for you why not take a leisurely ride on the back of a horse. There are lots of places within the Dales that offer pony trekking, one of our favourites is Kilnsey Trekking & Riding Centre near Skipton who offer a great range of pony treks to suit all ages and abilities.
Exploring the Dales you should also take a trip below ground, caving is a great way to understand the landscape that’s around you, White Scar Cave in the Dales National Park is a great place to go exploring. Discover all the beauty that lies beneath you including magnificent stalagmites and amazing waterfalls. Entrance into the cave is weather permitting and it’s open every day from 10am (February 1st to October 31st).
